Afghan girls granted last-minute visas to compete in robotics tournament

The Afghan all-girl team led the parade at the opening ceremony of the world’s first international robotics competition that kicked off in Washington DC on Sunday, after being twice been denied US visas by the State Department.

The team arrived in Washington on Saturday, after media attention prompted US President Donald Trump to intervene. The girls were granted entry via “parole,” meaning they can stay in the country for 10 days.
